Owner of the Letterboxing.org domain,
I appreciate an April fool's joke like the next person, but I don't
appreciate our web site being associated with your April fools joke. Please
take the "boxcaching" joke site down immediately. At the bare minimum,
remove all associated logos and references to Geocaching.com
Thanks,
Jeremy

If that's the case, then you can relax. It'll be gone tomorrow. If I'm
wrong and it isn't, then you can get just as bent out of shape over it
as you please, and justifiably so.

O.K. ...you got me. It gave me a scare at first. Then I went to each of the sites, and
checked out what people were saying about it.
You know, I do both, and enjoy both, and I know there are others who do the same.
For a few minutes I though, hey, maybe this is o.k., I like both, its a good merger. I
like the idea of the quarterly newsletter. That was great. But then after the the back
and forth (or at least the forth) by Jeremy Irish, I'm not enjoying either right now.
When the heads of these two great websites are at odds, I know it is taking time away
from keeping those sites great. Jeremy has to waste time answering emails to
debunk this, and Randy Hall has to answer to "why did you sell out?" Its a joke. I
guess I don't have the sense of humor for this. Listen, it seems like a big waste of
time to me. Letterboxing.org needs updating...why not do the updates instead of
changing every word in the site to boxcache. The maps of New York have been
screwed up for months, and I notified them of this, but no change. Hey, great joke,
lets move on tomorrow and make the site just as snazzy as geocaching.
I don't know, it all seems kinda pointless. And this back and forth garbage...its
makes both sites look like big dumb kids. Well, boys will be boys I guess...

With respect, keep in mind that there doesn't HAVE to be ANY
letterboxing.org website...it exists through the good graces and
hundreds of volunteer hours of fellow boxers. Let's keep it light
and appreciate what is GIVEN to us, fair enough?

Well said!!! Jokes are jokes. That's fine with me. But the way some people talk back and forth kinda turned me off a little bit. No offense to anybody, but I hope we just forget animosities and act like mature adults here. We all can't please everybody. Happy April fool's and happy easter to all!!
Enjoy the hunts!!

I found the boxcaching site to quite hilarious.
That being said, Jeremy is completely within his rights to request the removal of the logo and name as he is one of the owners of geocaching.com and they have a copyright on the logo and name.
One of the responsabilities that goes with obtaining a copyright is the enforcement of the copyright. Failure to do so may result in the copyright being withdrawn. There are posted usage guidelines on the geocaching.com site that indicate that the logo may be used on non-commercial pages as long as it portays geocaching.com in a positive light and is linked to the geocaching.com site.
While I personally don't see this portraying geocaching.com in a bad light, that is a decision that is up to the owner of the copyright. There is already bad blood between some members of both the letterboxing and geocaching communities and I would hate to see this spill over into a legal battle.

It just occurred to me that it's entirely possible Jeremy could be in
on this. I'm not accusing him, merely pointing out the possibility, as
any good conspiracy theorist would. If it were to turn out that Jeremy
was one of the punkers, rather than one of the punk'd, then the joke
is far larger than any of us have believed.
Again, merely a supposition -- just my idle mind turning over the
possibilities. I do not know Jeremy and I bear him no ill will.
The truth is out there. Trust no-one.

Is there some way to get the search boxes part working?
thanks

Good job on the new website. Knowing that the Mr.'s Hall & Irish
believe in peaceful co-existence, I feel they have played us all.
Princess Turtle has outgrown the l'boxing world so I'm a single
player. What is the price for a single membership? :-) Or did I miss
that part when it came to forking over money. Wouldn't mind that $50.
